A river runs through it
it cuts the rock and makes new paths
and smooth places
A river runs through it
into once dry desert
into dusty thirsty earth
into pieces being blown away
Creating new foundations
Bringing life again
A river runs through it!
I opened my journal this morning, the one I’m using currently that has about 2 clean pages left in it and this is what I found in it. It’s my first entry dated Sunday, April 2, 2017 as the sermon was beginning to be preached… This poem rose up and was birthed through my spirit onto the fresh clean crisp new journal page. Isn’t it funny how life can be birthed in the most unexpected places? And that’s just the way God loves to work too! Don’t you love to hear stories like that too? Women who give birth to their new babies in unexpected places amidst so much going on around them. This poem is like that, new life springing into unexpected places.
Isn’t that even what grace is really though? The places of your life that are the worst that you want hidden and God comes and shines His light and His love in those very dry dusty forgotten places – and then surprise life comes again! I love the way He works! I love the way He is!
The more that I get to know how He is, the more I love Him. There is a verse that says…
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
Reading that, I just am comforted and I hope you are too. I think of my thoughts and how sometimes they can be angry or vindictive or discouraged … And sometimes I think is God looking at me the way I am looking at others around me? And then this verse comes to mind, and I am comforted. He isn’t! He doesn’t think like me! He doesn’t see dry dusty places as dead zones, He sees them as blank pages in a new notebook ready for words to spring out and birth something to life! Ugh, that thought just blesses me!
Friend, I don’t know where you are today in your life but I’m just thankful for God today, for His GRACE filled and overflowing, life-giving, new thing making, LOVE in my life! No matter what it looks like from the outside, God can always make a way, He can always create something new! Well as I sip my first cup of coffee of the day, right now as I write, I’m toasting cheers to you! To all the new things that God is going to do in me and in you this very month and this very year! Before 2017 is over, some dry dusty places will begin getting quenched in the river of His love and grace!
So tell me, has God birthed anything new through you this year? Or have you ever delivered a baby in a crazy and unexpected place yourself or known someone who has? Grab your cup of coffee and lets talk! And always God bless you and may His loving grace keep you my friend! love, Aimee
